Annette has been in law enforcement since 1985. She started her career with the Chicago Police Department and then moved west to Washington State to join the Kennewick Police Department in eastern Washington. She served for several years at the Washington State Law Enforcement Training Academy as an instructor, tac officer, and later as the assistant commander. She then served with the newly developing Federal Way Police Department as a lieutenant and then commander. In 2000, she was hired as one of the assistant chiefs with the University of Washington Police Department. In 2005, she took the position as chief of police with the University of California, Davis Police Department.
She is a member of the California Campus and University Police Chiefs Association (CCUPCA), International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), International Association of College Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), and the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE).
Annette is a graduate of Northwest Law Enforcement Executive Command College and Northwestern University Traffic Institute School of Police Staff and Command.
In 2009, Annette was honored as the "2008 Campus Safety Director of the Year."
