Body Worn Cameras (BWC) Use for Non-Sworn Agencies
Posted by Michael Hill on September 4, 2024 at 11:15 amGood morning friends,
I am hoping folks can help me. I’m assessing whether the use of Body Worn Cameras is feasible for non-sworn agencies. I’m looking for any assistance in identifying pros/cons and if any institution has implemented a program successfully. Thank very much for any help or ideas.
Regards,
Mike

We gave our old BWCs to our Parking Services division when we upgraded models.? I think BWCs are essential for anyone working in an enforcement capacity regardless of their status.

Good morning, Mike,As a non-sworn agency, we have been utilizing Body Worn Cameras for over 12 years, and I have yet to encounter any significant drawbacks. They have proven to be extremely beneficial, particularly in student conduct hearings and in addressing complaints against our officers. The footage provides an objective record, which has greatly enhanced transparency and accountability within our operations.I’d be happy to share more about our experience if you feel it would be helpful.Best regards,WayneSent from my iPhone

Hi all,
One additionally question I have with Mike’s.? We have considered BWCs a couple of times but we keep running into issues with wiretapping and being a 2 party state.? For those that are non-sworn and using BWC have you run into this issue?
Best,
Alex
